The original Manhattan was made with rye whiskey. However, there was a period of time in the 1900s when rye was not readily available or as high quality as the Manhattan requires. During these decades, it became common practice to use Canadian Whiskey.
Rye Whiskey, Sweet Vermouth, Angostura Bitter (35.7 Vol.)
The strength of the Rye Whiskey and the sweetness of the Vermouth give the Manhattan a deep and long taste.
Stir with ice in a mixing glass, strain into a martini glass, garnish with a cocktail cherry.
Manhattan is known as a pre-dinner cocktail. Since the main ingredient is Whiskey, for sure you can drink it as a digestif as well.
